5 Ways To Bring Parisian Style Into Your Home

Pictures of Parisian apartments have been luring people away from their everyday lives for years. The chic and romantic visions of Paris pull at the heart strings and give people the desire for something more than their everyday. However, most of us aren’t going to move to Paris, so here are 5 to bring that Parisian style to your home.

1. Keep It Eclectic

The beauty of an eclectic home is it guarantees your home won’t look like anyone else’s. The combination of old and new furniture or décor is a big part of Parisian home design. By combining new modern pieces with vintage, the romance and character are brought back into a home.

2.      Don’t Over-Style

Too often people assume that every inch of the home must be filled - or sometimes, we just accumulate too many items. As one of Paris’s most famous residences, Coco Chanel once said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” The same goes for a Parisian home. You want the home to remain effortlessly chic, and by editing your home décor you can keep it from looking over-styled and cluttered.

3. Utilize All Space

As you can imagine, Parisian apartments are not large, and every inch of the home is well utilized to create livable and well-designed homes. Think about how each room needs to function and start designating and carving out spaces. With careful and intentional design, one room can have several zones for people to exist, making the most of any home.

4. Layer Lighting

Layering light in a room is one of the most underutilized design concepts. When a room only has canned lights or one big light fixture, it creates unflattering or harsh lighting. Just think about trying to settle in with friends and cocktails and the only lighting you have is harsh can lights - it’s not very relaxing. In most Parisian homes, you will see chandeliers, wall sconces, floor lamps and table lamps all in one room. This allows for more purposeful lighting, depending on the room’s activity.

5. Always Add Glamour

Glamour is synonymous with Paris, so don’t leave it out when decorating your Parisian-inspired home. The French are fortunate that a lot of their homes come with the charm and glamour of molding, ornate fireplaces, chandeliers, and gold-framed mirrors. However, those types are items are easy to add to any home and can completely change a room.
